Preparing for Interviews: Turning Experience into Stories

Getting invited to an interview means something important: your profile already looks interesting to us. From this point on, the goal is not to “prove your worth” from scratch, but to help us understand you in more depth.

Good preparation starts with revisiting two documents: the job description and your own CV. Read the responsibilities and requirements and then ask yourself, “Which of my experiences connect directly to these points?” Make notes. Those connections are the backbone of your interview stories.

A very effective way to structure those stories is the STAR method:

  • Situation: Give a short context.
  • Task: What was your role or responsibility?
  • Action: What did you specifically do?
  • Result: What changed because of your actions?

Choose three to five key examples before the interview:

  • Solving a complex technical or business problem
  • Learning something quickly under pressure
  • Navigating a difficult team situation
  • Handling a mistake and what you changed afterward

These don’t all need to be “heroic wins.” We’re just as interested in how you learn, communicate, and collaborate as in the outcome itself.

Then, tailor your focus by role:

  • For technical roles, be ready to explain your decisions: why this design, this trade‑off, this tool?
  • For operations or mission roles, think about procedures, incident response, and how you stay calm and effective during critical moments.
  • For business, product, or customer roles, emphasize the value you created, how you prioritized, and how you managed stakeholders.

Finally, remember that interviews are a two‑way conversation. Preparing a few questions for us,about team structure, success criteria in the first 6 to 12 months, or current challenges, shows that you’re evaluating whether this is the right environment for you too.

With clear stories, a solid understanding of the role, and honest questions, you’re already doing the most important part of interview preparation.
