Tactical Access, ICEYE's on-demand SAR tasking service, provides defense organizations with reserved access to satellite-based intelligence at short notice. With it, you are not limited to the standard FIFO (first in, first out) prioritization. Instead, you lock in satellite capacity early, then determine how to use it up until 40 minutes before tasking, usually even later. A ship goes dark in a maritime zone. A border crossing seems populated by unidentified military vehicles, while a staging area changes shape overnight. A military airfield sees a surge in a number of aircraft over a number of days.
These situations share one constraint: they require fast action, but the process from tasking satellites to making an informed decision takes far too long. Reacting to how things were hours ago instead of right now means the window of opportunity may already have passed.

With standard satellite tasking, you submit a task request, and if a pass is available, it is confirmed on FIFO basis. This works well for routine collection. But for acute crisis response, Tactical Access gives you far greater speed and control.
Instead of just an area, you get to book specific passes from our commercial SAR constellation. Once granted, your request cannot be overridden by anyone else. You reserve both the where and when, and can change the details nearly right up until the satellite passes the area. In short: standard tasking answers "when can I get imagery of this area?" Tactical Access lets you define both.
The workflow has four steps:
You can start using the service right away, with no infrastructure – provided you choose our secure cloud as the starting delivery method. Other delivery methods require hardware installations. Think of them as higher service tiers: each one increases speed and security.
1. Cloud delivery
Ready to use from day one. No infrastructure required. Tactical Access collections prioritize the next available downlink opportunity. As a result, delivery time is on average approximately an hour after collection.
2. EDGE Processor
An image processing system hardware unit built by ICEYE and installed at your site, with a lead time of around six months from order. EDGE handles the full processing pipeline locally, so the data never leaves your premises. Instead, raw image files are sent from ICEYE's global antenna network for processing directly in the EDGE system. Delivery times are typically an hour.
3. EDGE with Direct Downlink
Adds an antenna near the EDGE installation, supplied either by ICEYE or a third party. The satellite downlinks directly to your antenna instead of routing through ICEYE's global antenna network. When possible, imagery is downlinked immediately after collection while the satellite is overhead. This adds a layer of sovereign data custody and provides the fastest delivery speed of under one hour.
The three methods can serve as fallbacks for each other, so operations continue regardless of which path is available at any given moment. All delivery types integrate with your existing planning and exploitation software, allowing your team to combine Tactical Access data with other intelligence sources.
Tactical Access gives you control over the trade-off between wide coverage and a high level of detail. You decide whether you need an overview, close-ups – or a combination of both.
ICEYE’s Multi-Spot feature further expands the options. It lets you monitor what’s happening in multiple locations simultaneously, during the same satellite pass. As a result, your situational awareness remains clear even when the situation develops quickly in more than one area.
As a Tactical Access customer, you have priority over organisations that use standard tasking. When two Tactical Access customers request the same pass for an area, a daily arbitration mechanism is applied. When there is no contention, you are directly awarded the passes you request.
The way this works is via rotation: a customer who was not awarded a pass on one day is prioritised on the next. This ensures fair access to even the more contested regions.
ICEYE is not the only provider offering a priority tasking SAR service. What makes Tactical Access different is the high flexibility in changing the targets after the reservation, aligning with how fast real-world crises can evolve.
Because ICEYE's SAR constellation is the biggest in the world, the satellites can also pass over the same area more often. We’re also using AI to accelerate the final step: turning data into insight. For our EDGE roadmap, we will be adding automatic target recognition (ATR) for finished SAR imagery, enabling analysts and users to have an immediate preview of what's in the imagery. This is already leading to inference times that can be measured in seconds rather than minutes.
